When Is Your State Filing Deadline?

The U.S. Treasury Department and the IRS announced that the federal income tax filing due date for individuals for the 2020 tax year will be extended from April 15, 2021 to May 17, 2021. The federal tax filing delay to May 17, 2021 only applies to individual federal income tax returns and tax payments.

States do not always comply with federal updates and issue separate due date changes.

36 states have extended 2020 tax filing and payment deadlines to May 17, 2021.
